We used to have a "Dog of the Day" award for those "unfinished projects". However, we felt as a committee that this could be taken the wrong way and that it may discourage members whose cars were "well-used" from attending. The whole point is that the concours should be a bit of fun and that it shouldn't dominate proceedings at our annual get together.
I had a call from a member at the weekend who was concerned that TDCIR was only for "show cars". This is certainly not the case, owners of ALL cars are encouraged to attend. This is our annual meet, a chance for members (and non-members) and their families to socialise, make new friends, buy and sell spares, ask for advice and generally have a relaxed day out. It is not a classic car show in which members of the public pay to come in and look at rows of highly-polished cars. We will have the exclusive use of the smaller field at Hatton, not the top field which is used by the public.
Someone asked what the categories used in the past were? Up until 2000 we had awards for (as far as I can remember);
Best Sprint - original
Best Sprint - restored
Best Dolomite - original
Best Dolomite - restored
Best FWD - original
Best FWD - restored
Technical Award
Best modified car
Best kit car
"Most interesting car of the day" (I believe this was voted for by the members)
Car of the day
Long distance (UK/overseas)
Area display
The last time we attempted this was at the event in 2000 where attendance was down due to the petrol blockade. I recall that we ammended the categories on the day to take account of the low attendance (and concours entries). The following year we changed the categories to the ones listed in my earlier post.
It's going to be a busy day for the committee as we're intending to hold our AGM at TDCIR, so if anyone would like to volunteer to take care of the concours, that would be a great help. It's getting quite close now and trophies need to be ordered....
